solar panels on a beautiful sunny day

Choosing the right sized solar panel system for your household

Choosing the right sized solar panel system for your household

As solar panels don’t store power and you only get 1/3 of its value when it’s fed back, it is important that you choose the right solar panel system. The most efficient systems cover your sun time usage and feed some of it back into the grid.

If your household operates a lot of electrical appliances, such as a couple of fridges, ducted air con and a pool, during daylight hours, then a large system would pay for itself in no time. The largest residential system we offer is 6.76kW of panels on a 5kW inverter. This system, if facing north and in no shade, will make on average of over 30 units of power every day of the year. If all the power is consumed as it’s produced, it will save you around $3,000 per year or $500 per bill.

If your home doesn’t use a lot of power during the day, i.e. everyone works/attends school, you don’t have a pool, only one fridge, gas hot water system, etc., a smaller PV system would be better suited. If you are in this situation and you decide to install a large system, most of the power generated will flow back to the grid. This will benefit Synergy more than you.
