The Climate Foundation is made up of people from all over the world who all have the same goal: to change the world for the better.

Mother Teresa might’ve been onto something. Ok, she’s possibly onto a lot of things, but for the sake of this discussion let’s talk just about waste.
Unfortunately, due to the way technology works and how our electrical safety standards change, we find that it’s more practical and economical to replace old solar PV systems than upgrade them.
The inverters are often at end of life but the panels still have plenty of life left in them. These panels end up in landfill and this of course is not ideal and a huge waste of a precious resource.
Clean NRG Solar has found a solution to this problem that not only recycles the panels but helps our environment at the same time.
Together with the Climate Foundation, we have found a use for these solar panels.
Let’s explain.
Healthy seaweed growth is an important part of marine permaculture.
The more seaweed, the more fish, the more fish, the more nutrients, the more nutrients…
You get the idea.
Unfortunately, due to rising sea temperatures, seaweed is not growing at anywhere near the same rate as it used to.
This is where the clever people at the Climate Foundation have come up with an innovative solution: “Upwelling”.
They are pumping cool nutrient-rich water from the depths of the ocean and flooding the seaweed beds. This cool nutrient-rich water makes the seaweed grow much faster than seaweed without this treatment.
So where do the pre-used solar panels come in?
The clever engineers at the Climate Foundation are using these solar panels to make electricity to drive the pumps to move the water from the depths of the ocean.
Amazing technology that’s saving our planet, and our oceans.

So how can you help?

In addition to solar panels, if you invest in a solar home battery system you don’t even have to use the grid at night. Excess solar power captured during the day charges your battery to be stored for usage at night. Night use of power is the ‘peak’ time, when it’s the most expensive.
